Reunião entre Lula e Trump é considerada um progresso real nas negociações do tarifaço, afirma a CNI

CNI Celebrates Progress in Brazil-U.S. Trade Talks Following Lula-Trump Meeting in Malaysia

In a positive development for Brazil’s trade relations, the National Industry Confederation (CNI) expressed optimism after a recent meeting between Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and former U.S. President Donald Trump in Malaysia. The CNI highlighted that this encounter marked a tangible step forward in bilateral negotiations, emphasizing both governments’ commitment to developing balanced trade solutions.

During the meeting, Trump stated he has a good relationship with Brazil, pledged to negotiate an agreement with Lula in the near future, and described current tariffs as "just." Meanwhile, Lula called for the removal of trade tariffs and the revocation of sanctions, such as the Magnitsky Law, which targets certain Brazilian authorities. Both leaders confirmed that discussions are ongoing and that they expect to reach an agreement within weeks.

Ricardo Alban, president of the CNI, praised the dialogue, noting that it signals a genuine willingness from both sides to find common ground. He explained that the industry expects an agreement that will restore predictability and competitiveness to Brazilian exports, ultimately boosting the country’s industry and employment. Alban reaffirmed the sector’s readiness to contribute technically to the negotiations, advocating for a rational, transparent process rooted in data.

The CNI has been actively involved in supporting these negotiations, emphasizing dialogue and proposing concrete solutions in areas such as renewable energy, biofuels, critical minerals, and technology. The organization also highlighted ongoing efforts following a September business mission to Washington, where discussions on sectors like data centers, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and critical minerals were initiated—topics that remain central to the bilateral agenda.

This ongoing engagement reflects a shared interest in overcoming trade barriers and fostering cooperation between Brazil and the United States. As negotiations continue, industry leaders and policymakers remain hopeful that a fair and balanced trade framework can be established soon, benefiting both nations’ economies and industries.
